At Metro Group, we’re dedicated to providing top-notch water treatment solutions tailored to our clients’ unique needs. Our client, being a sub-contractor on a recent construction project in Norwood, MA, had requested our support in Chlorinating potable water systems for a recently developed laboratory facility. Let’s dive into the details of this case study to see how we successfully tackled the challenge.
Maintaining Water Quality for Laboratory Operations:
Our client, a prominent plumbing contractor in the Greater Boston Area, was tasked with installing the plumbing necessary for this laboratory construction project, as well as confirming that the potable water was sufficiently cleaned prior to occupancy. Tying the newly constructed addition into the existing lab was a unique task as the end user had very strict guidelines that required the project not interrupt existing lab operations. As always, our Metro Group team was up to the task!
Challenges of Chlorination Treatment:
The project presented several obstacles, including:
- Tight Schedule: The chlorination was the final piece of the puzzle to get a Certificate of Occupancy for the new addition, allowing the lab to fully occupy and use the space after many months of construction and planning.
- Complex Implementation: Due to the complex functioning of the lab environment, the chlorination process needed careful planning and execution to minimize disruption to their ongoing activities.
- Strict Protocol: Metro Group carefully complied with specifications given by the general contractor, as well as followed the established safety guidelines for working on an active construction site.
Metro Group’s Approach:
To address these challenges, we devised a comprehensive approach that included:
- Site survey: We conducted a detailed assessment of the facility’s water systems to identify specific requirements and demands of the facility. We worked closely with the site personnel to determine where the biggest obstacles could be present and pre-planned with our client how to best approach this service.
- Customized Chlorination Plan: Based on the findings of our survey, we determined the best way to apply chemistry to all areas of the new piping was to introduce additional pumps and bypass hoses to isolate the existing potable water system.
- Collaborative Chlorination Team Effort: Metro worked closely with the client’s team and the laboratory partners to ensure seamless coordination and execution of the chlorination process.
Chlorination Implementation and Results:
With careful planning and thorough execution, we successfully completed the chlorination treatment within our client’s tight schedule and with minimal disruption to the ongoing operations. Our team ensured that all safety protocols were followed, and the chemical application levels safely aligned with the project specification. Final testing confirmed the absence of bacteria, and the City of Boston promptly issued the coveted Certificate of Occupancy. This job was a success!
