NJ Water Management Plans
NJ Legislature has recently proposed rules governing the monitoring, prevention and control of Legionnaires Disease. The proposed law requires:
-A Water Management Plan (WMP) for the following buildings:
- Nursing homes
- Certain healthcare facilities
- All buildings with cooling towers, fountains, air scrubbers, hot tub, pool, or misters
- All buildings over 10 stories
– The Water Management Plan must include periodic Legionella Sampling
Water Management Plans (per ASHRAE 188) include a comprehensive understanding of a buildings domestic and HVAC water usage and piping. These plans are completed by a certified expert and identify possible hazards and risks associated with using that water in the building. The WMP will include periodic sampling from representative locations within the site to monitor for Legionella. The WMP also proactively identifies the corrective actions necessary to rectify issues should Legionella tests present positive results.
