NYC Local Law 88 - Lighting Upgrades and Sub-metering
Lighting
Did you know that lighting accounts for 18% of energy consumption and carbon emissions in NYC buildings?
New York City's Local Law 88 (LL88) requires buildings over 25,000 square feet to upgrade their lighting fixtures and build to meet the NYC Energy Conservation Code (NYCECC) by 2025. For residential spaces that meet the specific criteria, the NYCECC requires that 75% of lighting systems use high efficacy lamps and fixtures and more efficient light bulbs.
It can be cost-effective to upgrade your lighting systems before January 1st, 2025. New lamps and fixtures can be a capital-intensive upfront cost. By starting to switch over your lighting system now, you can spread out those costs over the course of a few years. Additionally, you will start to see immediate energy savings after installing high efficacy fixtures and high efficiency light blubs. LED bulbs have a life span 25x that of an incandescent light bulb, and the energy costs are 1/5 those of an incandescent.
Metro Group is here to provide a turnkey service, guiding your through Local Law compliance, designing a more efficient lighting system, and installing the lighting system in your building.
Sub-metering
LL88 also requires the installation of sub-meters in a residential and commercial spaces that meet New York City's sub-metering requirements. The intent of this portion of LL88 is to give commercial space tenants better visibility and understanding of their energy consumption.
Metro Group is here to provide a turnkey service, guide you through Local Law compliance and installing meters in your building to comply with sub-metering requirements.
